The following Private Education Institutions / Managers have contravened the Private Education Act and/or Regulations, and/or are in non-compliance of EduTrust Certification Terms and Conditions made thereunder:

Conviction

The Accused  Duclos Hazel Margaret pleaded guilty, was convicted and sentenced as follows :-

 

1) Failing to ensure that the PEI she was managing (Process College) comply with a lawful direction to refund students their course moneys which is an offence under section 60 (2) (a) read with section 60(5) and punishable under section 61(2) of the Private Education Act (Act 21 of 2009) now known as Private Education Act (Revised Edition) Cap 247A. The Court sentenced her to four (4) weeks jail. Her appeal against the jail sentence was heard and was dismissed by the High Court on 08.05.2013.

 

2) Failing in her duty as Manager to ensure the keeping of proper student records which is an offence under section 41(1) (a) read with Section 41(3) of the Private Education Act. The Court imposed a fine of $5,000 and in default two (2) weeks jail.

18.04.2012 Mr. Ken Yong, NRIC S7181203J, former manager of ALG Education Centre, Entity No. 200816939K. Conviction

The Accused Ken Yong pleaded guilty and was convicted of failing to comply with a lawful order to produce documents required for inspection by CPE, which is an offence under section 62(1) read with section 62(4) of the Private Education Act (Act 21 of 2009) now known as Private Education Act (Revised Edition) Cap 247A. The Court imposed a fine of $4,000 and in default 4 weeks jail.

CPE has issued a stern warning in lieu of prosecution on 20 March 2012 to three ex-managers of the Cambridge Business School (CBS) respectively – Mdm Guo Qiaoli, Mr Tan Cheng Hoe, and Mr Tan Cheng San – for contravening section 41(1)(a) read with section 41(3), and punishable under 61(2) of the Private Education Act, to wit, for failing in their duties as managers to ensure the keeping of proper student records.
