Private education institutions which are currently registered under the Education Act (Cap. 87) will be "deemed registered" for a period of 18 months from the commencement date of the new regulatory regime, i.e. from 21 December 2009.  To continue to operate beyond the 18-month window period, deemed registered private education institutions will have to be re-registered by 20 June 2011.  As such, they are strongly encouraged to submit their application for re-registration as soon as possible, or at least three months before the expiry of the deemed registered period.

Notwithstanding the 18-month transitional period, all "deemed registered" private education institutions are required to comply fully with all the provisions under the Private Education Act and Regulations.  The Council for Private Education will not hesitate to take appropriate regulatory measures against any offences or contraventions by any private education institution or its managers.
